Finding RIMMs for my dell

When I first set up a consulting business, I bought a high-powered Dell Precision Workstation. This was in 2002, and the top-o-the-line memory technology at the time was RAMBUS. Turns out that Intel found Rambus to be an expensive thing to work with, and they stopped using it in subsequent chipsets. The thing had a gig, and that was plenty at the time.

Now, I've just upgraded it to Vista, and one gig is feeling a little tight.

My good friend James gave me a single 256mb RIMM from a dead machine of his, but I needed another one. The best price I could find was at Memory Suppliers, where I could get a single additional 256mb RIMM to add to the dell, since it wants them in matched pairs. The site has the usual memory reseller stuff - a configurator, all sorts of memory types, and reasonable prices. Furthermore, they have a very liberal return policy. You can find used RIMMs cheaper on eBay, but that's always a crapshoot. What's more, they'll give you $10.00 if you post a link to them on your blog.

[UPDATE]
The RIMM that they sent didn't match the one I got from James. I emailed them, they said - no problem, send it back. I did so, and ordered a matched set of 256mb RIMMs, which arrived promptly, were easy to install, and worked. Vista is now faster. The return process was painless. Dealing with MemorySuppliers.com was very smooth...
